Michael is an artist and considers everything he makes a painting. Having just completed his Masters in Critical Theory and Political Aesthetics from CalArts, he continues the work of his Thesis, which is built upon the foundation of the always-vulnerable artist as examined in the lives and work of Paul Thek, Peter Hujar, and David Wojnarowicz. Since leaving New York in search of cheaper rent for studio space, his work has aligned more efficiently with the Los Angeles concept of the Post-Studio, along with his own ideas of recycle and the repurposing of waste as the media base for paintings, which continues the work of the canvas as media #1 for the painter.
Most recently Michael performed his one-person show The Infra Thin during the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival a work that concerns the genesis of Aristotle's idea that the finished sculpture already-exists within the block of wood, it merely requires the work of the artist to summon it.
